Mission: Children’s Ministries at First Presbyterian Church exists so children learn that “Jesus loves me this I know, for the Bible tells me so…”

The Children’s Ministries Team is responsible for ministry to infants through 5th grade children.

Nursery and Child Care was provided every Sunday during Sunday school and Worship Services, and for special church wide events.

Sunday School for Grades K-5 was conducted weekly. A team of classroom teachers, story tellers, song leaders, and support staff provided exciting lessons each week.  Team members made a commitment for three months at a time.  Some volunteered continuously all year long while others served for three months and moved on to other church responsibilities.   The primary curriculum was from “Kid Connection - Faith Alive Christian Resources,” a program designed for churches our size that will take the children through the entire Bible in four years.  A children’s version of “40 Days of Purpose” curriculum was used at the same time the adults were going through that spiritual growth program.

Children’s Moment & Our Chapel Children’s Church was provided Sundays during the 11:00 AM worship service and when we held combined services.  It is designed for early elementary age children, which begins with the Children’s Moment at the beginning of adult worship, and then the children move to a Sunday school room for age appropriate worship and a lesson.

“Power Lab” Vacation Bible School was conducted in July with more than 50 individual  children attending.  Special effort was given to involving children from the neighborhood around our church.  More than 25 adults and teens gave leadership to this highly successful event.

Trick or Treat Outreach was conducted on Halloween.  Members of our church gave out invitations to attend Sunday school along with the candy!

On Christmas Eve, the children presented a drama and sang at the 7:00 PM worship service.

Scouting has been part of our ministry to children and youth since 1938.  Cub Scouts meets at our church Monday evenings and Boy Scouts meet Tuesday evenings.  We celebrated Boy Scout Sunday in February.  A Girl Scout Troop also meets in our building during the school year.  The four main children’s Sunday school classrooms were painted as Eagle Scout service projects by Matt Shriver and Simon Souhrada.

Plans for 2009 include improving nursery and child care services, continuation of successful Sunday programs, new and innovative special events to attract neighborhood children and vacation Bible school.

The Children’s Ministries Team for 2008 includes Sunday school teachers, song leaders, story tellers, resource providers, costume makers, childcare helpers, providers of snacks, special event and VBS staff, ‘Our Chapel” helpers, planners, prop makers, equipment  repair and painting volunteers and folks who gave special support behind the scenes.  Some volunteers served all year long, others helped a little.  All individual contributions are highly valued.

Respectfully and prayerfully submitted,
