BUILDING and GROUNDS COMMITTEE |
|
The Building and Grounds committee held its first meeting of 2008 on April 22nd to reorganize the committee and plan the major projects to be undertaken in the coming months. Bob Meldrum, after serving as chairman of the committee since August, 2004, has stepped down in order to accept the position of Church Treasurer. Following in Bob’s (very large) footsteps as B&G chairman will be Mead Weil, with Joe Hirsch helping to assist with project coordination. A very big “thank you” is extended to Bob Meldrum for his dedicated and capable service to our church as committee |

The following is a list of major projects planned by the B&G committee for 2008: 1. Renovation of the parlor hallway and downstairs men’s restroom: Bob Meldrum graciously offered to organize and coordinate this project, with the intention of having it completed by the time of our 200th Anniversary in September, 2008. Work has already been started by Mike Abell. 2. Implementation of new building “key policy and procedures”: New exterior door lock mechanisms have arrived and are awaiting installation, pending approval of an official key policy and the communication of that policy to the church congregation. 3. Painting of Educational wing rooms as Eagle Scout project: Eagle Scout candidates Matt Shriver and Simon Sauhrada have each asked permission to paint two rooms of the Educational wing as their qualifying project for this distinguished award. 4. Rewriting of Building Use Policy: A new formal policy will be written to outline the expectations and limitations of community and civic groups requesting to use church facilities. 5. Repaving of alley along east side of church property: Solicitation (begging, if you will) of the city to repave the alley has been on-going for almost three years and will be continued until city officials agree to remedy the situation and eliminate a potential safety hazard to our church members and to the community at large. 6. Repair of leaking roof: A major leak in the membrane roof over the second floor “Logos” room was discovered over the winter months and emergency repairs have been made. Installation of a new membrane is planned for the near future, pending receipt and approval of the quote for the project. 7. Replacement of outside entry door to Education building basement: The existing door has rusted through in several places and must be replaced. 8. Tuck-pointing of north Sanctuary exterior wall in inner courtyard: Work is scheduled to begin during the fall of this year. 9. Painting of the fire escape leading from second floor “Boy Scout” room to ground level:
